12-Day: Druk Path Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Upon arrival in Paro, you will be greeted by your Bhutanese guide from Imperial Lotus Tours and transferred to your hotel. You will have lunch at the hotel before embarking on a visit to the Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower that now houses the National Museum of Bhutan. Next, visit the Paro Rimpung Dzong, built in 1646, meaning “Heap of Jewels”. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Paro

After breakfast, set out on an excursion to Taktshang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks. The monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. In the afternoon, visit the ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong, a fortress that played a key role in Bhutan’s history, and Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Paro – Jele Dzong (Start of Trek)

Embark on a trek that starts above the National Museum and takes you through the slopes until you reach Jele Dzong, where the campsite is located. If the caretaker is present, you can also visit the ancient dzong. Altitude 3,350m; Distance 10 Km; Time 3 – 4 hours.

Day 4: Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha

Start the day with a short climb before passing through a thick alpine forest of rhododendrons. The trail gradually climbs until you reach the campsite, where you may spot yak herders. Altitude 3,700m; Distance 12 Km; Time 4 – 5 hours.

Day 5: Jangchulakha – Jimilangtso

Follow the ridge until you reach Lake Jimilangtso, known for its giant-sized trout. Overnight at camp. Altitude 3,800m; Distance 16 Km; Time 6-7 hours.

Day 6: Jimilangtso – Simkota

The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees past the lake, Janetso. Overnight in camp. Time-4-5 Hours

Day 7: Simkota – Phajoding

Follow the route to the Phajoding monastery. Visit the Phajoding Monastery. Overnight in camp.

Day 8: Phajoding – Thimphu

Walk down the slope until you reach the valley floor, where your vehicle will be waiting to take you to Thimphu. Overnight at hotel.

Day 9: Thimphu

Start the day with a visit to the Sangaygang viewpoint, followed by a trip to the Takin Preserve Centre to see Bhutan’s national animal. Then visit the Drupthob Lhakhang, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan, the National Memorial Chorten, built in honour of Bhutan’s late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, and the National Library, home to ancient Buddhist manuscripts. In the afternoon, visit the Zorig Chusum, the School of Thirteen Arts, the Traditional Medicine Institute, and the Folk Heritage Museum. End the day with a visit to the Tashichho Dzong, seat of the National Government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). Overnight at hotel.

Day 10: Thimphu – Punakha

After breakfast, drive to Punakha. Stop at Dochula Pass for a view of the higher Himalayas. Visit Chhimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility. After lunch, explore the Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive architectural wonders.

Day 11. Wangduephodrang – Paro:

After breakfast, drive back to Paro. On the way, visit the Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, built-in 1627. After lunch, visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan. In the evening, enjoy a stroll in Paro town, explore the local shops and markets. Overnight in hotel.

Day 12. Departure.

After breakfast, early morning drive to Paro Airport and farewell.
